School of Medical Sciences International Masters Scholarship – University of Auckland
University of Auckland’s School of Medical Sciences Overseas Masters Scholarship draws fresh, highly qualified international students to enrol in master’s level studies for one or two years at the School of Medical Sciences, in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. The School of Medical Sciences at the University of Auckland launched the Scholarship in 2019 and provides funding for it. Annually, up to 50 of these scholarships, worth up to $10,000 each, are given to overseas students pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate, or taught master’s degrees. The opening date for scholarship applications is typically six weeks out. Only new overseas students who have been offered admission to the University of Auckland’s Master of Biomedical Science, Master of Science in Pharmacology, or Master of Science in Physiology are eligible to earn the scholarship.
A student cannot be considered for this scholarship if they have already started their program. The most recent qualifying program’s grade point average (GPA) or grade point equivalent (GPE) will be used to determine a candidate’s academic merit. For participating in a scholarship, applicants must have a GPA/GPE of at least 7.00 in their most recent qualifying program. The applicant’s place of origin or study program, as well as the university’s strategic goals and the goals of the school of medicine Sciences, may also be taken into consideration by the Selection Committee.
School of Medical Sciences International Masters Scholarship – University of Auckland Regulations
- This scholarship is open to international students.
- The Scholarship will be known as the School of Medical Sciences International Masters Scholarship.
- Five Scholarships will be awarded annually, for a period of up to two years and will be of the value of up to $20,000 per annum paid as a compulsory fees credit.
- The Scholarship is exclusively available to new overseas students who have been accepted into a Master of Biomedical Science, Master of Science in Pharmacology, or Master of Science in Physiology program at the University of Auckland.
Students who have already begun their program are unable to apply for this Scholarship. - Academic merit, as measured by the most recent qualifying program’s grade point average (GPA) or grade point equivalent (GPE), shall be the foundation for selection. To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must have a GPA/GPE of 7.00 or above in their most recent qualifying program. The Selection Committee may additionally examine the applicant’s program of study or place of origin, as well as the University’s strategic goals and the objectives of the School of Medical Sciences.
- The Scholarship will be given by the University of Auckland Council on the suggestion of a Selection Committee comprised of the Head of the School of Medical Sciences (or nominee), the School of Medical Sciences Dean, and the Dean of the School of Medical Sciences.
- Postgraduate Director (or nominee) and the Senior International Manager of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences.
- Payment will be made as a contribution towards compulsory tuition fees in each semester of enrolment.
- Students enrolled in a 240-point master’s degree must achieve a GPA of 7.00 in the first year of their programme to hold the Scholarship for the second year.
- The School of Medical Sciences International Masters Scholarship may be held with any other scholarship, award or grant where the Regulations for that scholarship, award or grant permit and where the University of Auckland Council so approves.
- The University of Auckland Council is not obliged to make an award if there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
- The University of Auckland Council has the power to terminate or suspend a Scholarship if it receives a report of unsatisfactory progress of a Scholar from the Associate Dean (Postgraduate) of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences.
- The University of Auckland Council has the power to amend or vary these Regulations provided that there is no departure from the main purpose of the Scholarship.
- Applications close with the Scholarships Office on 10th January in the year of the award.
