An undergraduate nursing program leading to a bachelor degree is offered by the single-purpose Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing (BSN). The program prepares men and women for the practice of professional nursing, carrying on a century-old history of quality in nursing education. 124 semester hours of coursework and largely on-campus clinical experiences make up the BSN program’s curriculum. 59 hours of liberal arts and sciences coursework must be completed at an authorized college or institution of the student’s choosing, and 65 hours must be spent at the College of Nursing studying for the nursing major. Note that meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Admission is competitive and usually the average GPA of the admitted class is significantly higher than the stated minimum of 2.5.

RN to BSN

Registered nurses can quickly complete the requirements for a baccalaureate degree in nursing at Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing (BSN). Although the program is designed to last for 18 months, suitable students may finish it in 14 and graduate with a BSN. Every course is delivered online. According to College of Nursing policy, graduates of state-approved diploma or associate degree nursing programs may receive 33 semester hours of credit for the nursing major without taking an exam after satisfactorily completing the required courses. The College of Nursing offers academic counseling to help students develop plans for advanced placement, credit transfer, and requirement completion.

The Master of Science in Nursing program: This program has a fast-track option for registered nurses holding a diploma or associate degree in nursing, very good academic records, and a bachelor’s degree in any discipline, aside from nursing from an accredited university or college. The prerequisites for this program include:

Student must have completed 59 credit hours of pre-nursing courses. Only applicants with a pass of 33 credits or better are awarded this program
Student requires a transition course, and a course in health assessment, and nursing research. The transition course must feature concepts and theories of baccalaureate nursing, and areas of ethics, practice issues, nursing management concepts, theories, and issues of decision-making.
Student must have completed a community health nursing with 48 hours of clinical practice experience.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner students must have 1 year of experience (or the equivalent) in psych-mental health within the last 5 years prior to starting the psych-mental health specific theory or practicum courses.

Priority Date – Priority acceptance is given to completed application materials received by April 1st for fall semester and Oct. 1st for spring semester, although applications are accepted all year round.

The DNP-Clinical must show evidence of an earned Master’s degree in nursing from a program accredited by ACEN, CNEA, or CCNE, and regionally accredited.
The DNP-Clinical must show evidence of 500 practice hours. A form for verification will be sent following admission to the College.
The DNP-Leadership applicant must have a bachelor’s degree in nursing from a program accredited by ACEN, CNEA, or CCNE, and regionally accredited as well as a master’s degree in health administration, leadership, or other master’s degree approved by the Dean of the Graduate Program or the Graduate Committee. The Master’s degree must also be from a regionally accredited program.
The DNP-Leadership applicant must show evidence of practicum hours completed for the master’s degree. If fewer than 500 hours were completed, then the student is required to add practicum hours during the doctoral program to complete the required 1000 practicum hours or show evidence of current management/leadership certification from American Organization for Nursing Leadership (formerly AONE) or ANCC.
