Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship Program
Native Hawaiian Scholarships Program are provided for Native Hawaiians pursuing careers in primary care and behavioural health. Scientists provide culturally appropriate primary care to Native Hawaiians and disadvantaged people living in poor and rural areas of Hawaii. The scholarship program aims to improve access to health care by establishing a Native Hawaiian healthcare workforce of professionals devoted to serving Hawaiian communities’ particular health needs. The initiative recruits and develops people in training for primary health care disciplines and specialities that are most required to provide quality, culturally competent health care to Native Hawaiians across the state of Hawai’i. Students attending full-time at an authorized college or university pursuing degrees in qualifying professions are able to apply. While enrolled full-time in an authorized university/college program, scholars will receive money for tuition, books, and other associated educational fees, as well as a monthly stipend. Eligibility for this funding opportunity is limited to POL, as designated in the NHHCIA, as amended [42 USC 11709(a)]. Recipients must serve a least two years and a maximum of four years in a medically underserved region within the state of Hawaii immediately following graduation/licensure.

  • Applicant must Prove Hawaiian ancestry
  • Applicant must Pursue one of the eligible health professions
  • Be enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university
  • Eligibility for this funding opportunity is limited to POL, as designated in the NHHCIA, as amended [42 USC 11709(a)]
  • Applicants pursuing Clinical Psychologist, Dentist, Dental Hygienist, Dietitian/Nutritionist, Nurse, Nurse-Midwife, Nurse Practitioner, Physician, Physician Assistant, or Social Worker programs are all eligible to apply.
