The National Student Nurses Association Foundation (FNSNA) was established in 1969 to celebrate Frances Tompkins, the Association’s first Executive Director. The association provides assistance to U.S. citizens and students with an Alien Registration number currently enrolled in state-approved schools of nursing or pre-nursing in associate degree, baccalaureate, diploma, generic doctorate, and generic master’s programs. The FNSNA Program gives out about $330,000 in scholarships each year through the General Scholarship and Promise of Nursing programs. Scholarships may vary between $1,000 and $7,500. Undergraduate grants are offered to students who are actively enrolled in a state-approved nursing program leading to an associate degree, bachelor’s degree, diploma, direct-entry master’s degree, RN to BSN/MSN completion, LPN/LVN to RN, or accelerated programs. The FNSNA do not have available funds for graduate study unless it is for the first degree in nursing. Scholarship candidates are chosen based on academic excellence, financial need, engagement in nursing student groups, and health-related community activities.
