You’ve come to the correct spot if you’re interested in learning more about how local, national, regional, and international governments contribute to sustainable development and are captivated by the processes of state formation, state reconstruction, peace-building, and conflict resolution. People with similar interests and concerns come together at the University of Antwerp’s Institute of Development (IOB). You will learn how things work and get insight into the global development context in all of its facets through this master’s program. To enhance the impact of the global context on development and poverty, the master offers insights and methods.
The IOB offers 10 full scholarships for each Advanced Master. The scholarships are funded by the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR-UOS). The scholarship covers all expenses related to the studies. For detailed information please check the website of VLIR-UOS.
Eligible Nationalities
A candidate should be a national and resident of one of the 29 eligible countries (nationality and country of residence not necessarily the same) at the time of the application.
The place of residence of the applicant will be checked. Eligible countries: Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroun, Cuba, DR Congo, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Guinee, Haiti, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Niger, Peru, Philippines, Palestina, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam, Zimbabwe.
Eligibility Criteria
Age: Candidates for the Advanced Master’s program may not be older than 45. (Age as of the entry year’s 1 January.)
Background and experience in the workplace: Candidates should ideally work in higher education, the government, or civil society, or should plan to pursue a career in one of these fields.
Nevertheless, depending on their purpose and personality, individuals having a job in the private sector or recently graduated candidates without any work experience may also be qualified.
Previous scholarships granted: The applicant has never been given a scholarship by the Belgian government to attend a study program and/or has never been enrolled in a study program at a Belgian higher education institution.
Scholarship applications: Each year, candidates are only allowed to submit one ICP Connect scholarship application.
Application Process
A combined selection commission of IOB and VLIR-UOS evaluates applications that successfully pass the academic selection in order to choose scholarship candidates.
10 effective scholars and 10 substitute scholars will be chosen for each Master.
The criteria for the VLIR-UOS scholarship are as follows: the IOB implements a gender and geographical balance; professional experience is a valuable asset in deciding who receives the scholarship; and a strong sense of motivation is highly regarded.
Scholarship candidates who have never before been awarded a scholarship will be given preference.
