Solar Stony Brook: Helpful Guide to Stony Brook University Portal
SOLAR The university’s enterprise-wide self-service platform, called Stony Brook, gives academics, staff, and students internet access to control their personal data. Students may register for classes, print schedules, see and pay bills, update personal contact information, access transcripts, and submit timesheets for student jobs using Stony Brook University SOLAR. Logging Into Stony Brook University Portal
- Please visit stonybrook.edu/solarsystem.
- To access the login screen, click “SOLAR LOGIN.”
- Enter your Stony Brook University ID number as the User ID.
- Put your SOLAR password in the Password field.
- Choose Sign In.
- Select Sign out in the upper right corner to log out.
- Please be aware that your SOLAR session will expire if no activity is detected for 20 minutes.
Resetting Your Solar Password
- Click SOLAR Account & Password Help on the SOLAR login page to get help.
- You will be required to provide certain personal data that is kept on file about you.
- You will be given a new password made up of extra data from your records.
- You will get an email with instructions on how to create this new password (but not the new password itself) at the email address listed in SOLAR.
Setting Your Preferred Name
- Go to stonybrook.edu/solar in a browser and choose SOLAR LOGIN.
- Your Stony Brook ID# (9 digits) and SOLAR password are required to log in to SOLAR.
- Press Sign In.
- Click Names from the SOLAR Home Page’s Security and Personal Data section (if Names isn’t there, click More, then click Names).
- The Preferred Name edit button should be clicked.
- Modify the Suffix, Prefix, First, Middle, and Last Names. You are free to choose any name as your favorite one.
- However, if a preferred name is deemed improper, the University maintains the right to delete it.
- On the Confirmation screen, click OK after clicking the SAVE button.
Adding An Email Address
- Click Email Addresses from the SOLAR sbu Home Page’s Security and Personal Data section.
- To add an email address, click the icon.
- After entering *Email Type and *Email Address, choose Save.
- Click the Delete button, then choose Save to get rid of an email address.
- Note: The Campus email address cannot be deleted.
- Your home or other email address can be modified.
- Your campus address cannot be changed on this page.
- Change your Home or Other email address by selecting all or a portion of it, typing it into the *Email Field, and clicking Save.
