Rutgers Canvas: How to Access Rutgers LMS 2023

Canvas is a web-based learning management system (LMS) designed to assist educational institutions to handle their online learning activities, instructors or teachers to create and present online study materials, and students to engage in courses and receive feedback about their skill development and learning achievement. Rutgers Canvas LMS is an instructional platform designed to administer allocate and support courses. At Rutgers, the use of Canvas is limited to specific academic and/or instructional purposes in order to provide an optimal instructional experience and adhere to the terms of our vendor agreements. Though Rutgers Canvas is a web-based software, it can be accessed on a mobile device through the Canvas mobile app.

How to Access Rutgers LMS 2023

Rutgers Canvas LMS is accessible to all active faculty, staff and students as well as non-credit students and guests. To access the Rutger Canvas LMS, you must log in to Rutgers Canvas using their Rutgers NetID and Email Logins. Active faculty, staff and students log in to Rutgers Canvas using their Rutgers NetID whiles non-credit students and guests must log in using their provided Email Login. You can access the Rutgers Canvas through the Rutgers Canvas website or the Canvas mobile App.

How to Login into Rutgers Canvas LMS

You can log in to Rutger Canvas LMS using your NetID or Email logins through the  Rutgers Canvas website.

Logging with NetID

1. Go to canvas.rutgers.edu on your web browser.
2. Click the “NetID Login” button located at the top of the page.
3. Enter your NetID and Password and click “LOGIN”.
4. When you log in, you will see your Canvas Dashboard.

Logging in With Email Logins

Step 1; Set up your password. Skip to the next step if you already know your password.

1. Go to the Canvas Email Login Page. and click on
2. Type your email address and click on “Forgot password?” and then the Request Password button.
3. Return to your email account and sign in. Open the email “Forgot Password: Canvas”. The sender is notifications@instructure.com
4. Click on the “Click here to set a new password” link.
5. After you have set your password, you will be brought back to the Canvas Login Page.

Step 2; Log into Canvas

1. Go to canvas.rutgers.edu
2. Enter your Email for the Login ID and the Password from Step 1
3. Click on “lOGIN”, and you will see your Canvas Dashboard

If you are on a public computer don’t forget to log out when you are done.

Logging in Using Canvas App

With the Canvas student app, you can access SFU Canvas LMS. The Canvas student app is available in Google Play Store for Android devices and in App Store for IOS users. With the Canvas students app, you can log in with your school URL or QR code. ‘

Logging in with URL

1. Open the Canvas student app and enter Rutgers Canvas URL or website. In case you don’t know the Rutgers Canvas URL code, you can search for the name of the university with the search bar.
2. Click on the login button and enter your NetID and password.
3. Click on “LOGIN”.

Logging in with QR Code

To log in with the QR code, click on the account link and then the QR code. For the QR code, Rutgers staff must enable the QR code feature before you can use it. QR code can be scanned from the login page of the myRutgers Portal. To view the QR code:

1. Login to your Rutger Canvas LMS account.
2. Click on “QR code for Mobile” in the account
3. Click on the proceed button and your code will display.

The QR code is the same as your password and should be kept confidential. If you are on a public computer don’t forget to log out when you are done.
