Ontario Trillium Scholarship 2024-2025

The Ontario Trillium Scholarship (OGS) is a programme launched by the provincial government to assist foreign students pursuing a Ph.D. at any of Ontario’s leading universities. There are a total of 15 different types of scholarships available in this programme for qualified PhD students, with the scholarship renewable for up to 4 years.

According to the programme requirements and the candidates’ merit, the universities in Ontario choose applicants and give them scholarships to assist their academic growth and education in the Canadian province. The OGS programme has been awarding merit-based scholarships to Ontario’s top graduate students across all academic fields since 1975. This post will look at both the bursary application procedure and the Ontario Trillium Scholarship application process.

Application Deadline

Each university has a different deadline for submissions for the scholarships. In most Canadian universities, scholarship nominations begin in September and end in March.

Application Fees 

Application for the 2024–2025 academic year’s Ontario Trillium Scholarships is free, although the annual value of each grant is 40,000 Canadian dollars. If the beneficiaries retain their academic standing and continue to be eligible for the award, it is automatically extended for up to four years.

Courses Offered

The courses offered under this program depends solely on the University of choice.

Documents Required 

1. A properly completed application

2. A copy of the student’s academic transcripts from all universities attended

3. A legitimate Canadian study visa

4. A replica of the applicant’s estimation of the average

5. Evidence from standardised assessments like the SAT and IELTS, etc.

6. Recommendation letters for applicants

7. A rundown of the applicant’s contributions to research

8. A list of the applicant’s honours and scholarships

9. The candidate’s resume 10. The candidate’s course of study

11. The authorised supervisor’s letter of support for the OTS

12. Evidence of health.

Bursary Application Process

Universities in Ontario may also provide bursaries to assist international students with their financial needs in addition to the Ontario Trillium Scholarship. To apply for bursary, one must:

  • Research bursaries that are available from the university or from certain departments.
  • Prepare the required documentation, which may include financial statements, a personal statement outlining your financial need, and any other supplementary materials required by the bursary programme.
  • Before the deadline, fill out the bursary application form and submit it with the necessary supporting documentation. Observe any additional guidelines or materials that may be required.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria :

1. Be an international student with a valid  student visa for Canada.

2. Have a strong command of English at the time of application.

3. Plan to register in a full-time graduate programme leading to a PhD degree.

4. Applicants must not currently hold any other Canadian scholarships, such as the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology (QEII-GSST) or the University of Washington Provost Graduate Scholarship.

5. Have earned a master’s degree full-time with a minimum GPA of 8.0 on a 10.0 scale.

6. Immediately before to submitting an application for admission to the doctoral programme under the OTS, the candidates must not have earned an undergraduate or graduate degree from any Ontario institution or college.

7. Not be enrolled as of right in a graduate or undergraduate programme at a post-secondary institution in Ontario.
