OIST Fall 2023 Research Internship

OIST Research Internship is a partially subsidised internship programme provided by the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology. OIST is a graduate school that lacks departments, removing artificial boundaries between persons from various areas, but it has a diverse international student body and staff focusing on topics in the sciences and technology. Some of the brightest minds in the world are coming to Okinawa as part of OIST’s mission to revolutionise research and education in the world of higher learning. Through the STEM research internship programme, the OIST Graduate School provides learning and research opportunities. Typically, internships last between two and six months and Students have the chance to master a specific technique or get expertise in a particular laboratory during these brief assignments. Under the supervision of a professor, interns will participate in OIST’s research initiatives. Internships may begin and end at any time during the year, with two application periods. OIST assists in visa acquisition, insurance procedures, JPY 2,400 per working day, OIST Shuttle Bus Pass, One direct round-trip air ticket, Furnished apartment on or off campus and local registration. This will only be provided for the student. Therefore, this does not pertain to the dependents and family members of the student.

OIST Fall 2023 Research Internship Application Eligibility/Requirement
  • Students who are in the final 2 years of the undergraduate or Master’s programs in universities, colleges, junior colleges, and vocational schools in Japan or overseas, or graduates of such institutions are eligible to apply.
  • Currently enrolled students with their approval from their home institution.
  • The candidates’ academic backgrounds should be acceptable for the OIST host unit(s) they choose.
  • A statement of purpose is required
  • Academic Transcript and Diploma
  • Recommendation Letter
  • ID Photo
OIST Fall 2023 Research Internship Application Procedure
  • Applications to the program must be made through the online form.
  • Applicants can only submit their application after at least one recommendation letter is received in the application system.
  •  An auto-notification that your application has been received will be sent to you.
  • The result announcement will be posted on your application platform 3 months after the application deadline. You will receive a notification when the result is posted.
  • The application must be submitted before April 15, 2023
  • Applicants’ cooperation is required for the timely completion of logistics to begin the internship, including possible visa preparations and other necessary Japanese government documentation.
