Mercy College Of Ohio Application Requirements

High School Students

Mercy College of Ohio requires the following in order to admit students:

  • All applicants must have either a general equivalency diploma (GED) with a score of 500 or a high school diploma with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0. (score of 53 prior to 2002).
  • To be deemed program ready for admission, all direct from high school students, 24 years of age and younger, must take the ACT or SAT and get an ACT composite score of 21 or SAT combined score of 990. (For exam codes, contact Admissions.)
  • There is no requirement for ACT or SAT scores for direct from high school applicants 25 years of age and older who have not attended a college or institution. To be deemed program-ready, students must be 25 years of age or older and complete all other program requirements.
  • Students without an ACT or SAT may be accepted into a certificate program at Mercy College or into a pre-program that does not require an ACT or SAT. Students with math subscores on their ACT or SAT below the required level are urged to take the math placement test to determine where they will be placed in their math course. Candidates are urged to start at Mercy College as a pre-major in order to finish the requirements for admission into the major if they don’t fulfill the minimal Algebra, Biology, and Chemistry criteria for admission.
  • In order to display cumulative subject grades for the disciplines of algebra, biology, and chemistry with lab, high school students’ semester grades will be revised. A weighted grading scale will be used to recalculate weighted courses. A grade of “C” or better is required for all courses, while a “B” or better is encouraged. The Mercy College catalog contains more details and a table that explains recalculations in greater detail.
  • If relevant, ACT or SAT scores.
  • Mercy Pledge – Students will acquire a new grade point average (GPA) at the College if they complete 15 credit hours of school at Mercy College of Ohio as a regular college student or a pre-program student. The student could be able to enroll in one of the college’s healthcare programs with the help of this new GPA.
  • The Mercy Pledge offers students the chance for a fresh start in their college careers as of the spring 2015 semester. The Mercy Pledge offers a chance for a second chance since some college students are uncertain or struggle in a particular class.
  • The Mercy Pledge was created by Mercy College administration to give students access to a top-notch, private Catholic education while achieving their career aspirations in healthcare.

Transfer Students

  • A transfer student must have completed at least 15 credit hours of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university with a GPA of at least 2.0 and be a high school graduate or GED holder. If a candidate has attended more than one regionally accredited college, their cumulative GPA must be at least 2.0.
  • If a transfer student has attempted and earned no more than 14 semester hours, they must provide the required high school transcripts in order to be evaluated for admission.
  • Transfer students will be admitted based on a careful examination of their college or university courses and grade point average if they have attempted and earned 15 or more semester hours. For the purpose of financial aid, a transfer student who has less than 45 attempted and achieved credit hours and who has not completed at least an associate’s degree requirements must submit high school transcripts.
  • Transfer applicants who are submitting an application to a program of study with a clinical component and who feel they are prepared for the program will have their transcripts examined for admission to Mercy College and will be given the opportunity to submit an immediate application. Priority deadlines are specified on the pages pertaining to each program, and the transfer student must complete and submit the candidacy form by those dates.
