Umich Canvas is the Learning Management System (LMS) of the University of Michigan used by U-M educators, staff, and students to access and handle online course learning materials as well as communicate about skill development and learning achievement. The Umich Canvas is the campus-wide learning management system (LMS) for publishing instructional information online at the University of Michigan. Umich Canvas is highly interactive, offering instructors or educators a prominent online resource to provide students with access to all their course-related materials such as assignments, lecture recordings, quizzes, and exams. With the Umich Canvas, instructors and students have access to a robust set of qualities including simple site design, the ability to send announcements or hold discussions, easy incorporation of media, accessible learning analytics, and online grading abilities. All instructors are urged to use the Umich Canvas site to at least post their syllabus and make course announcements.

Below is a helpful guide to assist you to log into the Umich Canvas LMS in order to have access to the U-M Canvas. Both students and instructors can log into U-M Canvas through the U-M canvas sites using a web browser or through the Canvas mobile app on a mobile device. Canvas supports the last two versions of every browser release.

How to Login into Umich Canvas using U-M Weblogin

1. Visit the U-M Weblogin site at https://umich.instructure.com/login/saml on your browser.
2. Enter your regular U-M Login credentials or Friend account email address and password. Click on “Forgot password” to reset your password if you have forgotten it.
3. Click on “Log in”.

How to Login into Umich Canvas using Guest Login

Use the social login account you chose when accepting the course invitation.

1. Go to the Canvas Guest Login site at https://umich.instructure.com/login/saml/41 on your browser.
2. To log in, select the provider you chose when accepting the course invitation.
3. Enter your logins for the provider you accepted.
4. Click on “Log in”.

Logging with Canvas Mobile App

Students can log in with the Canvas student app whiles instructors can also login in with the Canvas instructors app. Download the canvas mobile app you will need from Google Play Store for Android or App store for IOS users. Download and install the Canvas student app and follow the steps below to log into the Umich Canvas account. With the Canvas student app, you can log in with your school URL or QR code. Every institution uses a specific URL to access Canvas.

Logging in with URL

1. Open the installed Canvas student app and enter Umich Canvas URL or search for the University of Michigan with the search bar.
2. Click on the login button and enter your U-M Login credentials.
3. Click on “Log in”.

Logging in with QR Code

To log in with the QR code, click on the account link and then the QR code. For the QR code, U-M staff must enable the QR code feature before you can use it. QR code can be scanned from the login page of the U-M portal. To view the QR code:

1. Log in to your Umich Canvas account.
2. Click on “QR code for Mobile” in the account
3. Click on the proceed button and your code will display. Scan and log in.

The QR code is the same as your password and should be kept confidential.
