UW Madison Academic Calendar 2023-24: Important Dates & Deadlines provides important dates and deadlines to time to think ahead and plan for the events and activities ahead. The UW Madison academic calendar helps students and teachers track and schedule their plans towards events.
UW-Madison is operates a semester system which begins with the fall semester Semester systems and is commonly around 14-16 weeks long. They consist of 3 terms which are; Fall, Spring, and Summer. The majority of classes are offered in the 15-week-long Fall and Spring semesters which is named the A1 or Regular session.

- The deadline for students to cancel spring enrollment and have no spring term record on their transcript is January 23, 2023
- Instruction for the Spring 2023 term begins on January 24, 2023
- January 27, 2023, is the Deadline for students (except Special and Guest) to begin initial Spring term enrollment without a $50 late fee.
- February 1, 2023, is the Deadline for students to drop a course or withdraw from the university without having the course(s) appear on the transcript.
- February 3, 2023, is the Deadline for students to drop a Spring term course and receive 100% tuition adjustment, the Deadline for students to add, swap, or change sections in a Spring term course and the Deadline for students to begin initial Spring enrollment.
- Deadline for students to drop a Spring term course and receive a 50% tuition adjustment, the Deadline for students except Graduate to request pass/fail or credit/audit options for a Spring term course and the Deadline for students (except Graduate) to change variable credits is February 17, 2023.
- Enrollment appointment times for the Summer term assigned to students are on March 27, 2023.
- Summer term course enrollment begins on April 3, 2023.
- April 20, 2023, is the Last day for Graduate students to request pass/fail or credit/audit options for a Spring term course and the last day for Graduate students to change variable credits.
- April 21, 2023, is the last day for students to drop a Spring term course, the last day for students to add a Spring term course with department permission and the Last day for students to change their Honors Optional course status.
- April 21, 2023, is the Deadline for students except for graduates, to withdraw from the Spring term.
- May 5, 2023, is the last day for Graduate students to withdraw from the Spring term and the Last day of instruction for the Spring 2023 term.
- May 14, 2023, is the Official degree conferral date on the diploma for students graduating at the end of Spring term 2023.
